Course Objectives
This introductory course is for anyone interested in the most diverse part of Asia covering Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Southeast Asia is treated as a cultural world that extends from South China to Madagascar and Polynesia. Students will be exposed to area studies via the many disciplines and research of faculty associated with the Southeast Asia Program. Typically, the course covers language and linguistics, geography and ethnography, religion, history, politics, performing arts, art history, labor relations, finance, natural resources, family policy, and economic development.
Course Audience
All undergraduate students and graduate students who are curious about the region and interested in methods to study a region that is both diverse and difficult to define.
