A candidate for the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree at Cornell University may Minor in
East Asia Studies by completing 18 credits of course work in East Asia Studies.
Students normally take five (5) courses in East Asian Studies at the 2200 level or
above from those East Asian courses listed either under Asian Studies or Asian-related
courses. Of these, two courses may be Asian language courses at the 2200-level or
beyond. East Asian graduate courses may also be offered for the minor, as
well as East Asia-related courses with a research paper on an East Asian topic.
Appropriate courses taken through Cornell Abroad in East Asia may also be counted
toward the minor.
Students minoring in East Asia Studies should select an advisor from the
East Asia Program faculty for consultation
on their course of study. Students enrolled in the East Asia minor are considered members
of the East Asia Program and are encouraged to participate in all program activities.

Based on your interests, select and obtain the agreement of a faculty member who is willing to serve
as the minor advisor. (You may obtain a list of eligible faculty from the Asian Studies
office). Have your intended advisor sign the minor application form.

may minor in South Asia Studies by completing at least 18 credits of
course work (typically five courses) in South Asia Studies, at the 2200 level or above.
These courses are selected from South Asia courses listed under the Department of Asian
Studies, or from other Asia-related courses. Of these, two courses may be South Asian language
courses at the 2200 level or above. Appropriate South Asia graduate course work may be
included in the minor with consent of the instructor and the advisor. One South
Asia-related course with a research paper on a South Asia subject may be included with
the consent of the advisor and the director of undergraduate studies.
Students minoring in South Asia Studies are considered members of the South Asia
Program and will have an advisor from the program faculty. (This advisor will supervise
a student's minor and does not substitute for a student’s major advisor.)

A candidate for the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree at Cornell University may Minor in
Southeast Asia Studies by completing 18 credits of course work, including a history
course, and three courses or seminars at the intermediate or advanced level, two of
which may be Southeast Asian language courses. A recommended plan would include
ASIAN 2208 (Introduction to Southeast Asia) and 4 courses at the intermediate or
advanced stage, two of which could be a Southeast Asia language.
Students taking a
Minor in Southeast Asia Studies are members of the Southeast Asia Program
and are assigned an advisor from the Southeast Asia Program faculty. Such students
are encouraged to commence work on a Southeast Asia language either at the 10-week
intensive course offered by the Southeast Asia Studies Summer Institute or by studying
for one semester at IKIP Malang, Indonesia; Khon Kaen University, Thailand; and Hanoi
University, Vietnam; fellowships are available for undergraduates through the Cornell
Abroad Program.
