In this class we will study the Swedish language and explore Swedish culture and society. Swedish is a language spoken by around 10 million people worldwide, in particular in Sweden and Swedish-speaking parts of Finland. Swedish is also understood by most speakers of Danish and Norwegian, thus summing to around 20 million interlocutors. Moreover, Sweden is a country in the EU and Swedish is one of the EU languages. By deciding to study Swedish, you have embarked on an exciting journey to discover a language and a culture which has shaped intriguing history and contemporary society, ranging from the Viking Age to present-day successful industrial, cultural and societal innovations. SWED 1210 is a 4 credits course offered this fall (MW 8:40-9:55, F 9:05-9:55).
