FLAS (Foreign Language and Area Studies) fellowship for Swedish

Swedish is an eligible language for FLAS fellowships, which generally provide full year financial support for pursuing language and area studies coursework. Information and the application form is available online from the Institute for European Studies at Cornell University.

Study abroad in Sweden and Scandinavia


Various opportunities exist for studying in Scandinavia, just to mention a few:
  • The Swedish Institute's summer courses. An opportunity to enhance language skills for students who have completed at least one year of Swedish. Students may apply for a scholarship for covering costs (excluding the travel arrangement to Sweden). Application deadline: March 31
  • Cornell Abroad offers exciting study abroad programs at distinguished Scandinavian institutions, mostly ranging from one semester to a full year. Students can study at Uppsala University, Stockholm University, University of Iceland, and DIS in Copenhagen. It may also be possible to study in Finland. Application deadlines: Sep. 15 (for spring), Feb. 15 (for fall). It is encouraged to apply before the deadlines.
  • CALS Exchange Programs offers wonderful study abroad exchange programs for CALS students with the following distinguished Scandinavian institutions: Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala University, and the University of Copenhagen (KU).
