LRC welcomes new team member Ahmed Shamim

The Language Resource Center (LRC) welcomes a new team member, Dr. Ahmed Shamim. As the LRC Academic Programs Coordinator, Shamim will work closely with faculty, staff, and students across the university to develop and institutionalize new models of language learning. Shamim holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from The City University of New York and has taught Bangla for over a decade at several US universities in regular semesters and at summer programs. He has also published two books on language, literature, and linguistics in Bangla. His research interests include language pedagogy, phonology, morphology, and grammar.

"I look forward to being a part of the language education support team that keeps the teaching and learning activities in the university level up and running," said Shamim.

An avid language learner, Shamim has studied French, Hindi, and Spanish and is fluent in Bangla and English. "Modern pedagogies and technologies allow students to advance in their proficiency faster and with fun, as I have experienced myself," he said.

"Shamim brings extensive teaching and program administration experience to the LRC. His background in teaching Bangla gives him a deep understanding of the challenges and promises of less commonly taught languages at the university level, which will be particularly useful as we continue to bolster the Shared Course Initiative. We are thrilled to have him join our team and support language students and faculty on campus," said Dr. Angelika Kraemer, LRC Director.

In his free time, Shamim enjoys playing guitar, visiting state parks, and watching movies.

You can find Shamim in G04D Stimson Hall or by emailing him directly at as3969@cornell.edu.
