LRC welcomes new team member Emma Britton

The Language Resource Center (LRC) welcomes a new team member, Dr. Emma Britton. As the LRC Coordinator of Language Learning Initiatives, Emma will work closely with faculty, staff, and students across the university to develop and institutionalize new models of language learning. Emma received her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2021 with a specialization in Language, Literacy, and Culture. As a second language educator, her research and praxis centers on applications of critical linguistic and sociocultural and multimodal learning theories. Her expertise is in critical language awareness and L2 writing, and she has published in both these areas.

"I have a great passion for learning world languages, and I believe universities play a crucial role in developing students' cross-cultural and cross-linguistic competencies," said Emma.

An avid traveler, Emma has been learning world languages throughout adulthood, including Spanish and Azerbaijani.

"Emma brings many years of experience in program coordination and development to the LRC. Coupled with her background in language education, she makes a wonderful addition to our team and the language community at Cornell. We are excited to have her communicate the value of language learning to students on campus and identify prospective opportunities that suit their interests and goals," said Dr. Angelika Kraemer, LRC Director.

In her free time, Emma enjoys jogging, cooking vegetarian food, and reading fiction.

You can find Emma in G04E Stimson Hall or by emailing her directly at erbritton@cornell.edu.
